Restoring Promise Program
Reimagining Middle School Success Through Relationships, Restoration, and Responsibility
The Restoring Promise Program is a new, innovative initiative launched at the Dr. O'dell Owens Center for Learning to support middle school students through a comprehensive, relationship-driven approach to education. Led by educator Andrew Beumer, the program is entirely self-contained within his classroom and provides a safe, structured, and supportive environment where students are empowered to grow both academically and personally.
Inspired by the national Restoring Promise movement and rooted in restorative justice, this program is built on the understanding that young people thrive when they are met with high expectations, meaningful relationships, and holistic support. Our goal is to build trust, restore hope, and help students fulfill the promise they hold within themselves.
Who We Serve
The Restoring Promise Program serves a select group of middle school students whose past experiences with school may have included exclusionary discipline, disrupted learning, or challenges with engagement. Many of these students have experienced trauma, instability, or barriers to academic success—but they are full of promise, potential, and power. This program provides them with a fresh start in an environment that honors their voice, fosters accountability, and prioritizes healing over punishment.

A Classroom with a Bigger Mission
Though the program is physically housed in one classroom, its vision is far-reaching. Under Andrew Beumer’s leadership, students in the Restoring Promise Program are learning to reconnect with school, rediscover their value, and redefine their futures. Every day, students are reminded that they matter, that they belong, and that their stories are not defined by past mistakes but by the promises they keep to themselves and their community.
Why It Matters
Too often, students who need the most support are met with systems that push them further away. The Restoring Promise Program exists to interrupt that cycle—offering a model that is personal, restorative, and full of possibility. By addressing the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students alongside their academic development, we are preparing them not only to succeed in school but to thrive in life.
Together, we are restoring hope, rebuilding relationships, and reigniting the promise of every child.
